Press Release
Launch of the First International Architecture and Construction Exposition in Cambodia
Phnom Penh City, July 17, 2009. The Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction and International Data Group today announce that they are launching the first annual Architecture and Construction exposition named Cam Build World Expo in the mid of December, 2009 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
This is a world-class exposition focusing on products, services, technologies and concepts in architecture and construction for Cambodia. It is the networking event of the year for all businesses connected (directly and indirectly) to the building and construction industry.
The theme “Modernizing Architectural and Building Construction Standards” will focus on the need for Cambodia to adopt international architectural codes of practice and modern methods in the construction industry.
The urbanization process is taking place rapidly in this Kingdom of 13 million. Millions of people from rural areas have moved to cities to work and live over the last decade. The housing supply for the populace is 50% short of the actual demand. Concrete houses account for less than 20% of dwelling units. With a population of 2.5 million and about 400km2 of land, Phnom Penh is a promising destination for foreign architecture and construction companies to invest in.
Residential land prices reached US$1,600 per square metre, representing an increase of US$700 from 2006, while commercial land prices rose by US$1,200 to US$2,500 per square metre. Prime land, located along Norodom and Monivong Boulevards, increased by 50 percent to US$3,000 per square metre in recent years.
As a developing country, Cambodia has a chance to leapfrog to advanced concepts and technologies and to build up sustainable GREEN cities. The inaugural Cam Build World Expo 2009 will focus on the second theme “Creating Sustainable Eco Cities”. The eco cities concept, master planning and design will be the highlight of the exhibition and its concurrent conference. Building features and materials which are environmentally friendly will be prominently featured as a major part of the exhibits.
Cam Build World Expo 2009 is a key event for architectural firms, local and regional building and construction authorities and agencies, urban regeneration agencies, building contractors, architects, developers, urban planners, suppliers, utilities and training providers and anyone concerned with the construction industry, especially in the “green” and eco-friendly sectors.
The organizers expect a gathering of overseas and local building material providers, construction equipment manufacturers and urban planning solutions providers, and top executives in the building and construction industry in Cambodia and the region. Cam Build World Expo 2009 will definitely bring benefits to the local architecture and construction industry in Cambodia, and become an important event for international players in this field to showcase their products and technologies.
The 3-day exposition and a concurrent conference is jointly organized by Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction who plays the prime role in managing and planning the whole country’s architecture and construction. Delegates attending Cam Build World Expo 2009 will find opportunities to learn about the latest trends in sustainable and “green” architecture and building designs. They will be updated on the most recent technologies and construction methods, besides learning about international best practices.
The organizers expect to attract major investors in architecture and construction in the region to exhibit at the event. Delegates and trade visitors will view a wide range of solutions and services on offer from leading suppliers and receive advices from industry experts. The event will also draw the attention of local authorities in land and urban planning management, construction companies and distributors, and about almost all people who are working in the architecture and construction industry, of which are quite a lot of international architectural firms and construction companies plus 800 local companies registered in the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction.
